The Earth Out of Course and the Source of Spiritual Darkness
Scripture reveals a sobering truth about the condition of this world: the earth is out of course. This is not simply a poetic phrase—it is a spiritual diagnosis of a fallen system operating outside of God’s intended order.
Psalm 82 gives us insight into this condition:
“They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.” (Psalm 82:5, KJV)
The phrase out of course comes from the Hebrew word mote, meaning to slip, shake, or fall. It conveys instability—something no longer fixed as it was designed to be.
God did not create the earth this way. Psalm 104 tells us He established it so that it “should not be removed.” Yet Scripture makes clear that what God established in order has been disrupted through rebellion and deception.
The cause is not merely human failure. The Bible points to a deeper issue: spiritual leadership gone corrupt. The “gods” referenced in Psalm 82—fallen angels—failed in their responsibility and instead misled mankind into darkness.
This is why humanity walks without understanding. The confusion, violence, and moral collapse we see today are not random. They are the result of a world led astray.
The Earth Out of Course in the Days of Noah and Today
The condition of the earth being out of course is not new. Scripture shows us that this same corruption existed before the flood.
“The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.” (Genesis 6:11, KJV)
That corruption came through the interaction between the spiritual and physical realms—an unlawful crossing that brought widespread destruction. God judged that world with water.
Jesus warned that the last days would mirror the days of Noah. The same patterns are re-emerging: violence, deception, and a growing disregard for God’s order.
Isaiah confirms what is coming:
“Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of her place…” (Isaiah 13:13, KJV)
This time, the judgment will not be by water, but by fire.
Why the Earth Out of Course Leads to Judgment
Isaiah 24 explains why this judgment is necessary:
Man has transgressed God’s laws
Changed His ordinances
Broken the everlasting covenant
The result is a defiled world under a curse.
“The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof…” (Isaiah 24:5, KJV)
The earth out of course is not just physical instability—it is moral and spiritual collapse. When God’s order is rejected, judgment becomes inevitable.
The Earth Out of Course and Man’s Willful Darkness
Romans 1 explains that humanity is not without responsibility. Men chose darkness.
“Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.” (Romans 1:22, KJV)
Even though God revealed Himself through creation, men rejected Him and turned to false worship. They exchanged truth for lies and chose the creature over the Creator.
This is why Scripture says men “walk in darkness.” It is not ignorance alone—it is willful rejection.
The world today reflects this condition:
Good is called evil
Evil is called good
Truth is dismissed
Deception is embraced
Like Nineveh before Jonah’s warning, humanity cannot discern “between their right hand and their left.”
The Earth Out of Course and the Power Behind It
Ephesians teaches that this darkness is driven by spiritual forces:
Principalities
Powers
Rulers of darkness
Men often deny these forces exist, yet they are influenced by them daily.
The tragedy is this: many are controlled by what they refuse to acknowledge.
God’s Answer for an Earth Out of Course
In the midst of this condition, God has not left humanity without hope.
Acts 26 records Christ’s mission given to Paul:
“To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God…”
This is the answer to a world that is out of course—not political reform, not human effort, but spiritual transformation through Jesus Christ.
God now commands all men to repent:
“Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness…” (Acts 17:31, KJV)
Judgment is certain. But so is God’s offer of salvation.
The Love of God in a World Out of Course
Despite man’s rebellion, God’s love remains.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son…” (John 3:16, KJV)
This is not a world worthy of love—it is a world in darkness, confusion, and sin. Yet God chose to provide a way of escape.
2 Peter reminds us why judgment has not yet fallen:
“The Lord is… long suffering… not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9, KJV)
God’s delay is not weakness—it is mercy.
The Earth Out of Course Will Not Continue Forever
There is a limit to that mercy.
“The elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also… shall be burned up.” (2 Peter 3:10, KJV)
The earth out of course will be corrected—but through judgment.
This is the coming Day of the Lord.
A Call to Respond Before It Is Too Late
The message is simple and urgent.
Men are not guaranteed tomorrow. The opportunity to respond to God’s offer is now.
“He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already…” (John 3:18, KJV)
The world may continue in darkness, but individuals can be saved from it.
God’s desire is clear:
That all would be saved
That all would come to the knowledge of the truth
That none would perish
But each person must respond.
Conclusion: The Earth Out of Course and the Hope of Redemption
The condition of the earth out of course explains the confusion, violence, and deception we see around us. It is the result of spiritual rebellion and human rejection of truth.
Yet even now, God offers redemption.
Through Jesus Christ, men can be:
Delivered from darkness
Freed from the power of Satan
Given eternal life
The judgment is coming. That is certain.
But so is the invitation.
Today is the time to respond.
