Based on the Bible Message Why Jesus Had to Die: God’s Plan Before the Foundation of the World by Scott Mitchell – Unlock the Bible Now!

The Foundation of the World Reveals God’s Eternal Plan
Easter is often centered on the resurrection of Jesus Christ—and rightly so. Yet the resurrection is not an isolated event. It is the fulfillment of a plan established long before creation itself. Scripture reveals that what took place at Calvary was not reactionary. It was predetermined.
Ephesians 1:4 declares:
“According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love.”
The phrase foundation of the world speaks of a beginning point—a divine establishment. Before man was formed, before sin entered, God had already purposed redemption through Jesus Christ.
This means the cross was not an afterthought. It was part of an eternal design.
The Mystery Hidden Since the Foundation of the World
Why the Plan Was Kept Secret from the Foundation of the World
Scripture teaches that a mystery was hidden from the beginning:
“Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.” (1 Corinthians 2:8)
The rulers referenced here are not merely earthly authorities, but spiritual powers—principalities and forces opposed to God.
The plan of redemption was concealed from them.
Why?
Because the death of Christ would become the very means by which sin was defeated and salvation secured. Had these powers understood the outcome, they would not have participated in the crucifixion.
God’s wisdom was revealed in a way no created being could anticipate.
The Foundation of the World and the Origin of Rebellion
The Distinction Between Earth and World System
The word “world” in Scripture often refers not to the physical earth, but to an organized system—what the Greek calls cosmos. This includes governments, authority structures, and spiritual influence.
Jesus acknowledged that Satan had authority over this system:
“For that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.” (Luke 4:6)
Yet Psalm 115:16 reminds us:
“The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord’s: but the earth hath he given to the children of men.”
This distinction is essential:
The earth was given to man
The world system is under Satan’s influence
That influence did not originate in Eden. It traces back to a rebellion before man was created.
The Fall Before the Foundation of the World System
Scripture gives insight into a being described as:
The anointed cherub (Ezekiel 28)
Lucifer, son of the morning (Isaiah 14)
This being was created perfect but fell through pride:
“Thou wast perfect in thy ways… till iniquity was found in thee.” (Ezekiel 28:15)
This rebellion involved a third of the angels (Revelation 12:4) and resulted in judgment.
The aftermath is seen in Genesis 1:2:
“And the earth was without form, and void…”
Something catastrophic occurred between the original creation and the condition described in Genesis 1:2. This aligns with the fall of Satan and his kingdom.
Why Man Was Created After the Foundation of the World
After this rebellion, God created man:
“Let us make man in our image… and let them have dominion…” (Genesis 1:26)
Man was given authority over the earth—authority once connected to angelic beings.
This was not arbitrary. It was part of a greater purpose.
God allowed man to choose obedience or rebellion, just as the angels had.
The tree in the garden was not accidental. It represented that choice.
The Entrance of Sin and the Need for Redemption
When Adam sinned, mankind followed the same path as the fallen angels—choosing the creature over the Creator.
Romans 1:25 states:
“Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator…”
This fulfilled the very challenge Satan had made—that man would also rebel.
But God had already accounted for this.
The Lamb Slain from the Foundation of the World
Christ’s Sacrifice Was Ordained Before Creation
1 Peter 1:19–20 reveals:
“Christ… verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world.”
And Revelation 13:8 describes:
“The Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.”
This does not mean Christ died before creation, but that His sacrifice was determined before it.
God knew:
Man would fall
Sin would enter
Redemption would be required
And He established the solution in advance.
Chosen Before the Foundation of the World Through Faith
Scripture teaches that believers were chosen in Christ before the foundation of the world—but also clarifies how:
“Chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth.” (2 Thessalonians 2:13)
The order is clear:
The gospel is presented
The individual believes the truth
The Spirit sanctifies
Salvation is applied
God’s foreknowledge includes all who would believe, yet each person is given the choice.
The Foundation of the World and the Final Conflict
Just as rebellion occurred in the past, Scripture shows it will happen again.
Revelation 13 describes a future time when the world will once again follow a false ruler—the beast.
But there is a distinction:
“All that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life…”
Those written in the Book of Life—names established from the foundation of the world—will not follow deception.
The Foundation of the World and Your Salvation
This Easter message brings us to a personal question.
If God established redemption before the foundation of the world…
If Christ was ordained to die for sin before man existed…
Then the invitation stands today.
“Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Salvation is not earned. It is received.
The cross was planned. The resurrection was accomplished. The offer is extended.
Have you believed?
Conclusion: The Foundation of the World Points to the Cross
The resurrection we celebrate at Easter is the visible victory of a plan that began before time.
Before creation, God chose
Before sin, God prepared
Before the cross, God ordained
The foundation of the world was not just the beginning of creation—it was the beginning of redemption.
And through Jesus Christ, that plan is fulfilled.
