Based from the Bible Mysteries podcast episode #237 The Coming Woes: Biblical Prophecy, Final Judgments, and the Rise of Antichrist

And I beheld, and heard an angel flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice, Woe, woe, woe, to the inhabiters of the earth by reason of the other voices of the trumpet of the three angels, which are yet to sound!”Revelation 8:13

Throughout the Scriptures, the word woe appears as a solemn harbinger of divine judgment. More than a cry of sorrow, it marks the threshold of wrath—the warning issued before God executes justice upon the rebellious, the corrupt, and the defiant rulers of this world. In Episode 237 of Bible Mysteries Podcast, we examine the prophetic pattern of “woes” across the Old and New Testaments, culminating in the three catastrophic woes of the Book of Revelation.

The Biblical Weight of Woe

The original languages of Scripture carry profound meaning in their use of the term woe. In Hebrew (אוֹי) and Greek (οὐαί), the word reflects not just grief, but a cry anticipating destruction. It is the verbal alarm preceding a fall.

From the judgments on Moab (Numbers 21:28-29) to the indictment of wicked men (Proverbs 24:1-2), the Lord’s prophets pronounced woes as divine verdicts. Isaiah warned of unjust decrees (Isaiah 10:1-4). Ezekiel exposed the iniquity of Israel’s leaders (Ezekiel 34:1-6), and the idolatrous sins of Jerusalem (Ezekiel 16:20-25). Zechariah rebuked false shepherds (Zechariah 11:15-17), typifying leaders who defy the true God and prefigure the Antichrist.

Woe is never spoken lightly.

Christ’s Condemnation and the Call to Repentance

In the Gospels, Jesus pronounced woes upon cities and religious leaders who rejected His truth. Chorazin and Bethsaida faced condemnation for their hardened hearts despite witnessing His miracles (Matthew 11:20-24). The scribes and Pharisees received sharp rebuke for hypocrisy and spiritual blindness (Matthew 23:13-14).

These warnings were not merely historical—they remain spiritually relevant. As Christ declared judgment, He also offered a path to repentance. Woe follows the rejection of truth, but truth still calls to salvation.

Warnings to the Wicked: Jude’s Last Days Prophecy

Jude echoes these themes with prophetic clarity. He describes ungodly men—sensual, arrogant, rejecting spiritual authority—who walk the path of Cain, Balaam, and Korah (Jude 1:10-15). These figures are prototypes of a broader coming rebellion tied to a Nephilim lineage and destined for divine judgment. The apostasy described in Jude aligns with end-time deception preparing the way for the Antichrist.

The Final Three Woes of Revelation

The Book of Revelation unveils the culmination of God’s wrath in three terminal woes. Each marks an intensification of divine judgment on a rebellious world under satanic dominion.

  • The First Woe (Revelation 9:1-12): A star falls from heaven, unleashing smoke and locust-like creatures with the power to torment, not kill. Their victims are those without the seal of God. The torment is so severe that men seek death and cannot find it—a reflection of both physical and spiritual agony. The suggestion of genetic manipulation or demonic hybrids here cannot be dismissed.

  • The Second Woe (Revelation 9:13-18): Four angels bound in the Euphrates are released, commanding an army of 200 million. The destruction is swift and widespread. These beings may have ancient ties to the fallen Watchers of Genesis 6, reemerging in the final days to execute divine fury.

  • The Third Woe (Revelation 12:7-12): A war erupts in heaven. Michael and his angels cast Satan and his host down to the earth. With no more place in the heavens, Satan intensifies his assault on mankind, knowing his time is short. This final woe signals an unprecedented unleashing of wrath upon the earth.

A Coming Judgment No Man Can Escape

These three woes are not allegory—they are warnings. They outline a coming sequence of judgments that surpass even the global flood of Noah’s day. In each instance, God's justice answers rebellion, and only those found in Christ are spared the wrath to come.

As the world spirals toward the prophesied climax, spiritual neutrality will not suffice. The hour demands an unwavering faith toward the Son of God for deliverance.

“For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:9
